Where are speed bumps when you need them? #redneck

I write what's in my head especially when it isn't nice #writerslife #amwriting

I'm amazed what comes out on the page or the screen. It isn't always nice. In fact, it is down right vicious sometimes. Visceral to be honest with you, but the more visceral writing is the better it is because it is real. I love being real with what I write. No pretense. No holding back. Just say what I want and move on to the next sentence. If someone doesn't like it, great, and fuck them.

#BarackObama to take guns of #ChickenTrump supporters on November 8,2016 #confessionsofavampirehunter

Election Day the guns will be taken. Trump supporters better stay home or they will lose their guns. Trump isn't going to win, and you better protect your guns while you still can.

Write what's in your head and enjoy offending #amwriting #writerslife

Even if I'm not political I piss people off with what I write. It is inevitable I suppose. Letting people know what you've written will make them mad. "Don't e-mail me," they will say. Or, "You wrote this about me." What's the song about people being vain? Some aren't worth writing about, but sometimes the people you hate and the things you hate are the best to take out your literary wrath on. And that pisses people off and offends them. Good. It means what you say matters.

#SCOTUS reaffirms a woman's right to choose #ChickenTrump #NeverTrump

The Supreme Court reaffirmed a woman's right to choose by striking down a Texas law that imposed harsh abortion restrictions. It is a major ruling, and it represents a shift towards further expansion of pro choice by allowing for greater access to abortion. Great news. Finally progressive forces have won out over regressive policies from the right.

I write what's in my head because I want to #writerslife #amwriting

I love what's in my head. It interests me, and I like to transcribe what I'm thinking. The more I write the more new ideas spill out. Previously nascent notions make themselves known. It is mystical, and it is wonderful.

#Brexit may set off a wave of economic unrest #confessionsofavampirehunter

Britain is burning, my friends. They have gone mad. Nativism is the tool of vampires and other oppressors, namely Donald Trump, who is as worthless a vampire as anyone.

Brace yourselves. Sharpen your stakes.

Write what's in your head however questionable it may be #amwriting #writerslife

We all have thoughts we may not want everyone to know. Our thoughts may embarrass us. Writers are used to this because much of writing is bearing your soul and getting it stomped on. It is a personal rejection of sorts, but that's okay. Eventually you develop the mentality, "If they don't like it, then fuck them." Emphasis on FUCK because you can't really "give a fuck" or you won't be a writer for long. As the line goes, "Sometimes you just got to say, what the fuck? and go for it."

#PaulRyan and #ChickenTrump unite in opposition to the #1stAmendment

Because that's what you do when the truth hurts you. Do not let it be spoken, and maybe it will go away. Sue the press. Shut down websites, media outlets, and cut off the cameras on the House floor when people protest. All in the name of gun rights because the right to possess an object "Trumps" the right to speak. Do away with our most sacred freedom, freedom of speech (liberty), in the name of the NRA. That makes sense. That's American or "Merica" or Amerika as Kafka called it.

Write what's in your head because it is correct #amwriting #writerslife

Whatever you write was meant to be written at that time. It may be edited later, but there are no wasted words prior to editing. There are no incorrect words prior to editing except maybe typos, but that's the only exception. I view everything I write or have written as a necessary step in my progression to the next place or next level in my writing. Sometimes I go down a different path and come back to something I've written years ago, and life has given it a new reality. I get it when other writers say, "I wasn't ready to write that yet." Usually it means they didn't have the life experience. Sure they could craft nice sounding sentences, but sentences aren't everything. Writing needs to be vital. I aim for vitality with as much precision as possible. This can only happen when I write what's in my head.

#DonaldTrump losing in Arizona #SheriffArpaio #ChickenTrump

Bill Clinton won Arizona in 1996. So will Hillary Clinton even though Sheriff Arpaio endorsed Trump. Those Minutemen clowns aren't going to like it. Good. I'm glad.

Old stories, new life #amwriting #writerslife

I used to publish a story a day on my first blog. They were short, unrefined micro fiction I'd say. My first professional publication was micro fiction. I have all those stories single spaced and bound on about seventy pages. It is probably 140-150 pages worth of material. Many of these stories can be expanded to longer stories, novellas or even novels.

It is interesting to read them and see where I've changed, improved and stayed the same. The creativity has always been there, but my mechanics have improved. I've learned the "craft" of writing through writing and editing more.

I view writing as a process, and I write to produce quality work and because I enjoy it. I really get a kick out of creating and seeing my ideas take shape. There is something mystical when the story "seems to write itself" because it does. My stories rarely end up where I thought they would; it is as if my mind is taking me on a journey. It is incredible and unlike any experience I've had other than reading and thinking. Movies don't do it like writing or reading does.

So #Iamwriting...always.

Write what's in your head even if it is "wrong" (especially if it is "wrong") #amwriting #writerslife

Because why the fuck not? I yell into the "howling void" everyday. I never know if anyone is there to hear me. Usually no one is in a void, but maybe it only feels like I'm yelling into nothing. I'm creating and transcribing what's in my head. And lots of people read it. Lots have read it.

The way I differentiate myself is by writing what's in my head because that's me, and what I have to say is important. I know that, and all writers should tell themselves that.

Making people mad with your writing is fun #amwriting #writerslife

One of my great pleasures in life is pissing off assholes, a skill I posses in spades. We all know assholes deserve it, so I am performing a public service. Blogging is great for arousing the ire of asshats. So are Facebook and Twitter.

Write what's in your head...everyday #writerslife #amwriting

I write what I think. Sometimes people like it. Sometimes it offends them. I don't care either way. I like when they buy my books, stories and novellas, but I don't need that. I write to write, and it is its own reward. Sure I want fame, but fame is empty. So are riches. All of it is ephemera. Creating is constant because, once it is out there, it cannot be unwritten.

Keep writing even if the sentences don't flow #amwriting #writerslife

I write a lot, and I write everyday. Sometimes the words flow better. Sometimes the sentences are crafted more skillfully. But editing is where you polish. Getting it out is important. My best writing is done when I relax and belt it out. I can always refine it later Good writing is a controlled flourish, but you have to let it flourish first. Then you can go back and control it.

Writing is the best self-expression for me #amwriting #writerslife

Writing enriches me. It makes my life better by giving me an outlet. It can be "arts for art's sake," though I would be lying if I said I didn't want commercial success. But I'm happy with what I've done so far, and I know the money part comes later. I will make it happen. It is happening, but the happening takes awhile.

#Orlando is tragic, and it was caused by bigotry and #NRA mentality #ChickenTrump

At least 50 are dead, and they were targeted for being gay. This is what you get when you let hate run rampant, hate that is stirred up by the Tea Party, Trump, the NRA and the Evangelicals.

It is sickening, and I'm tired of hearing it has nothing to do with guns. Guns and hate caused this, and the two are closely linked.

Writing can narrow your ideas to comprehensible units #amwriting #writerslife

Anyone who has ever written anything knows writing both creates ideas and narrows them. We are trying to make verbal what is sometimes beyond verbal. It is the old linguist's predicament: what do you mean by chair? In other words, are there properties unique to all chairs? Is the chair you are referring to unique? It is the only chair that is itself, but it is like all chairs in one way or another.

Fiction––horror, sci-fi and fantasy in particular––require us to expand and narrow complex ideas to comprehensible units. I suppose all writing does, but it is even more difficult when you are writing about something new or something you hope is new and original.

I've found writing clarifies more than it narrows. It also helps create new ideas. You really do improve when you write more. It isn't something you can do occasionally and do well.

Write a story, novella or novel per week (the former is more likely) #amwriting #writerslife

I try and publish at least a story a week. Lately that's what I've been doing. Today I am publishing a new novella called Honky Tonk Angel. It should be live in a few minutes. You have to keep writing if you want to improve. I really enjoy writing, and the more I do it the better the ideas flow. The words flow better too.

I think I invented "redneck noir" or so it would seem #amwriting #writerslife

Lately I've written or revised several redneck themed mysteries. The other day I told my wife it is alarming how well I write rednecks. I really don't see that many on a regular basis, but I have met and observed quite a few over my life. And they are seared into my memory; I do see quite a few on Facebook, which is usually my only interaction with them now. They are perfect for fiction because they make such bad choices. And the choices get worse. It is like compounding interest except things get worse, and the rednecks never get richer.

Most of them will vote for Trump even though it isn't in their best interest. Their own pride and prejudices get in their way all the time. That's what makes them rednecks and worthy of fiction albeit probably not literary fiction--maybe one day.

Sometimes it isn't fun to write, but most of the time it is #writerslife #amwriting

I get tired of writing sometimes. Sometimes I don't feel like it. Believe it or not I don't like reading either at times. Most of the time, though, I enjoy reading and writing. You have to keep doing both if you want to be a good writer. The words don't sing a much as you want, but you will find it usually comes out better than you think. And that's why you rewrite because not everyone gets it right the first time. Almost no one does.

#TrumpUniversity is yet another fraud from #ChickenTrump

When this flimflam man goes down, it will be hard. It is only a matter of time. There is no way this bullshit will hold up. He's such a lying piece of incompetent shit. There is no plan, no thought and no concern for anyone. It makes you wonder about the longevity of this county to think this idiot is even a candidate. He's a worthless bum..

Getting back in the writing groove #amwriting

At lunch after court today I read and edited a novella I wrote. In addition, I wrote 1,000 words all in about an hour. I know--I'm fast. Of course I will read over the novella some more, but it read well. It is about George Zimmerman, and I've been delayed in releasing it.

The novel I'm writing is coming along well. I am almost 50,000 words in. Not bad for less than 6 months of work all while not sleeping and being a new dad. My wife and my daughter inspire me though.
